Description
Autograph letter, signed, describing Washington's receipt of the news of the death of Ternay on December 15. Washington confirms that Destouches will succeed Ternay as commander of His Most Christian Majesty's Squadron at Newport. The letter is dated December 23, 1780, at Washington's headquarters in New Windsor, New York. The verso is blank. Title supplied by cataloger.
