Description
Image of the Edgewater Club in the foreground, with the Grand Hotel behind it, and the Hippodrome, Deauville Club, and Santa Monica Pier visible in the distance, on the beach in Santa Monica, California. A sign that reads "Grand Hotel" is visible on the south side of the Grand Hotel.
"Grand Hotel"--text, handwritten in pencil on verso. "Santa Monica-Cal 539"--text, on item. Title transcribed from item. Date approximated by cataloger based on history of the buildings depicted. The Grand Hotel at 1725 Ocean Front (Promenade) opened in 1926 as the Breakers Club and become the Grand Hotel in 1935, by 1939 it was known as the Waverly Club and later it was called the Grand hotel and then the Hotel Chase by the 1950s. The building to the south at 1855 Ocean Front (Promenade) in 1925 was the Edgewater Club until after 1945 when in was demolished.
