Somis is an unincorporated area of Ventura County, just north of the Camarillo city limits. It is primarily an agricultural area that is home to a fire station, a hardware store, a market, a post office, an elementary school, several shops, one main residential tract, and numerous estates and ranches. Serving the community since 1895, the city of Somis is a Kindergarten through 8th grade District with an average enrollment of about 460 students. The single school campus (possibly the one pictured here) moved to its present location in 1924. As of the year 2000, the total population in Somis, California was 2,946.
