Description
Work begins for the extension of Wilshire Blvd. over the lake at Westlake Park (later renamed MacArthur Park). The caption reads, "Here is a steam shovel at work on one of the grassy banks at the east side of the park as the way is being cleared for construction of the extension. Debris from the digging and demolition is scattered in foreground. Pedestrian tunnels will be constructed under each end of the new boulevard link, and the dirt fill will be 470 feet long. The lake will be reduced approximately one-third in area by the fill. The great civic project is to be completed in seven months." Photo dated: May 20, 1933.
