Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Ergun Kirlikovali was born in Turkey in 1952. His wife, Juliana Marian Kirlikovali, was born in Ireland in 1954. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1978 for “economical welfare” (better lives). A job offer brought them to Orange County in 1981. Ergun founded Integrated Polymer Industries, Inc., in Irvine, CA, in 1985. He served as president and Juliana as vice president. Ergun was also active in Turkish-American affairs. Four men of Turkish origin sit on a panel of Turks from various nations around the world, some of which have been under Soviet rule. The event was organized by Professor Adil Ahmedov of Kazakhstan and others from California and Arizona, and was held at the University of Southern California in November, 1993.
