Photograph of a view of Engine 38 as it pulls several train cars at the recreation of the driving of the final spike on Southern Pacific's Los Angeles-San Francisco line at Lang Station in Soledad Canyon, September 5, 1926. Engine 38, which conveyed passengers to Lang Station from Los Angeles, pulls a short train along tracks which run diagonally from the center left to the lower right of the image. The train's smokestack emits a cloud of smoke or steam. Several onlookers stand to the side of the tracks in the left of the image, while to the right of the tracks stand two men in conductor-like uniforms. Hills are visible in the background.
