American Meter manufactures measurement and control equipment and was established in 1836 when Samuel Down produced the first gas meters in the United States. In 1863, Down merged with two other meter manufacturers and the resulting entity was incorporated as American Meter.
Looking northeast over the plant for American Meter Co., located at 300 N. Gilbert Street. The staff parking lot is west of the plant and a small set of railroad tracks run to the facility's loading area (center). Citrus groves and residential neighborhoods are in the background. Photograph dated November 22, 1955.
