This is a photograph of children who "discovered Brother Peter and [Fr. Sullivan] while standing around waiting for an air raid drill to end. They were not quite sure what to make of [the situation]." Born in Pennsylvania, Fr. Sullivan came to Maryknoll in 1926 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1937. He was assigned to Fushun, Manchuria and was repatriated to the United States in 1943. In 1947 he returned to Fushun but was forced to abandon his mission the following year. He was temporarily assigned to the Kweilin Prefecture where he was Regional Director of Catholic Welfare. In 1950 he was assigned to Taiwan where he was actively engaged in parochial work.
