Description
An account in “Sacramento, City and County California, The Capital and Garden of an Empire,” printed in 1906, details Sacramento City as both County Seat and Capital of California, situated just below or south of the juncture of the American and Sacramento Rivers. It goes on to describe Sacramento as the fourth city in the state with a population of approximately 45,000 people. About the city’s buildings, the booklet had the following to say, “The business portion of the city is substantially built of stone and brick, while its private residences are principally of wood, and are of handsome architectural design."
