Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
The hotel, the first resort seen by tourists driving up from California, operated from 1956 to 1996. On December 1, 1996 the Hacienda was closed to the public and was imploded later that month. In March 1999, it was replaced with the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
Photograph caption dated March 17, 1959 reads, "The Hacienda is the only family motel-hotel in Las Vegas having regular supervised activities for the children of guests. Sharing the spotlight with the sleek Buick Convertible used by the Valley Times Travelogue crew is Preston Foster, standing, prominent TV and movie star, and Dick Taylor, general manager of the famous Hacienda."
