In 1921 the Minneapolis-based firm of Dickinson & Gillespie developed Palisades del Rey, billed as "The Last of the Beaches," and which was situated on the Southern California coast between Venice and Hermosa beaches in an area that is now part of Playa del Rey. A small child, approximately 2 or 3 years old, is shown seated and playing in the sand at Palisades del Rey beach. A caption on the side of the photo reads, "All year play ground of happy healthy children. Palisades del Rey."
