Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated November 19, 1949 reads, "A 60-year-old unemployed motion picture director was sought by Valley police today after his wife reported he left home in a despondent mood. Listed as missing was George H. Webster, 11109 Hatteras St., North Hollywood. His wife, Amelia May, told police he left home Monday in a fit of despondency, saying he might go to the beach and 'jump off a pier.' Mrs. Webster said her husband told her to contact the Screen Directors' Guild if he did not return. She said Webster had been unemployed since the strike that paralyzed the movie industry three years ago. He is a veteran of 35 years in the motion picture business. Police immediately began a check for the missing man in Santa Monica and Ocean Park. He is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, with greying brown hair and blue eyes. He left home wearing a brown suit and white shirt, his wife said."
