Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
The Festival of Masks was created in the mid-1970s by the Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) to celebrate the diverse heritage of Los Angeles and to provide an arena for cross-cultural exchange. The 10th Annual Festival was held on October 25-26, 1986 and was solely produced by CAFAM. The festival parade, running down Wilshire Boulevard from Crescent Heights Boulevard to Curson Avenue on the second day of the two-day event, featured 50 marching bands, school groups, musicians, and performers, with a total of around 2,000 marchers participating.
A masked and costumed woman walks down Wilshire Boulevard during the 1986 Festival of Masks parade. Behind her is the newly completed Robert O. Anderson Building (later renamed the Art of the Americas Building in 2007 and demolished in 2020) at LACMA.
