Caption from December 8, 1959 Sacramento Bee reads "NEW ASSIGNMENT - This F106 fighter interceptor, the newest, fastest and most heavily armed of the air force's fighter planes, was flown to McClellan Air Force Base late yesterday. Under a new air force program, McClellan will be the only air force base in the . . . and modification of the F106. McClellan officials said 290 of the speedy jets are slated to go through McClellan shops in a 23 month period beginning July 1st. Repairmen will study this model to become familiar with all aspects of the plane before the start of the servicing period." High resolution scan available.
