Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the aviary at Alum Rock Park in San Jose, California, ca.1900. The aviary stands at center next to a dirt road on the right and surrounded by trees on the left. The building has an arching roof on the back side, but a slanted roof on the front. The skeletal frame is covered in thin "walls" of net which do not obstruct the view of the birds and trees inside. The road on the right is lined with newly-planted trees that are supported by small, wooden cages. Three women in nice dresses can be seen walking down the center of the street towards the foreground. Tree-covered mountains stand in the background.
