Photograph caption dated May 8, 1951 reads, "There were no dramatics, no kleiglights, no hair hanging over one eye today for actress Veronica Lake. It was real-life money troubles that she and her husband, director Andre? de Toth, came to court to talk about. They have filed bankruptcy petitions. Their home has been seized for delinquent income taxes. 'When that happened,' said de Toth, everybody who held a bill against us wanted money immediately."
