Description
View of trees that were burned down by a fire. Date and location are unknown. Donor/Source of Loan: Rob Hanford (owned by Glenn Way)
Audiotape 17B-182 This is another photograph of the forest fire that raged through Bucks Meadow and the surrounding northern mountains for more than a month (see sc17407, 17507,17512). The fire was eventually put out by a back fire combined with a change in wind direction. Andy Jacks was a Plumas County Supervisor who requested that GMW be called in on fighting this fire. He knew Glenn through previous election activities. The influx of workers linving in Jacks district provided a source of votes that could swing local elections. Jacks was a road supervisor for the county, which is how he met Way. A voting booth would be set up in the kitchen at Camp 2, and then several men would verify that an individual was an American citizen before they could vote. H.H. Boomer, George Chue, and Glenn Way among others would serve in this Capa City. The voting place in Meadow Valley was the school house, and Ben Bramer, Lord, Bishop and others would perform the same duty at that site.
