Photographic portrait of Jean (Frank?) Rebout and Louis Ardeau (Ardian?), two blacksmiths who had a shop on Aliso Street in the early days of Los Angeles, ca.1880. One of the men is seated at left and is facing slightly to the right. He is wearing a black suit, vest and bow tie with a lightly-colored shirt. He has black hair combed neatly and parted at right, and a thin black mustache. The other man is standing at right, facing slightly to the left with his hand on his partner's shoulder. He is also wearing a dark suit, vest and bow tie with a lightly-colored shirt. He has dark hair parted at right and a thick black mustache. The men are standing in front of a painted backdrop that depicts trees.
