1896-1903 attended the Higher Art Institute of the Academy of Arts
at first studied architecture and then switched to sculpture
1903 with Boris Kustodiev visited Novgorod to research ancient Russian art, his lifelong interest
1904 lived in Paris
attended the Académie Julian
1904-13 lived in St. Petersburg
worked in various disciplines, including painting, sculpture, stage design, and book illustration
contributed to the exhibitions of the New Society of Artists, the Union of Artists, the World of Art, and other societies
with Ivan Bilibin, Mstislav Dobuzhinskii, and others visited Talashkino
1905-06 contributed to satirical magazines
1906 created an album of illustrations to “The Lay of the Host of Igor”
1907 with Kustodiev visited Italy
1907-13 made many trips to ancient Russian cities
visited Western Europe several times
1908-09 designed productions of Alexei K. Tolstoi's “Tsar Fedor Ivanovich” and Nikolai Rimskii-Korsakov's “Snegourochka”
1909 designed costumes for Sergei Diaghilev's production of “The Maid of Pskov” in Paris
1912 onward member of the revived World of Art group
contributed to the "Exhibition of Paintings by Russian Artists and Sculpture by Boris Fredman-Kliuzel" at the Lemercier Gallery, Moscow

В 1896-1903 учился в Академии художеств в Петербурге
сначала изучал архитектуру, а затем перешел на отделение скульптуры
в 1903 вместе с Б. М. Кустодиевым совершил поездку в Новгород для изучения древнерусского искусства, остававшегося в центре его интересов в течение всей жизни
в 1904 жил в Париже, посещал Академию Жюльена
в 1904-13 жил в Петербурге и работал в различных областях художественной деятельности: живописи, скульптуре, книжной иллюстрации, театрально-декорационном искусстве
принимал участие в выставках Нового общества художников, Союза русских художников, Мира искусства и др. объединений
вместе с И. Я. Билибиным, М. В. Добужинским и другими посещал Талашкино
в 1905-06 сотрудничал в русских сатирических журналах
в 1906 создал альбом иллюстраций к «Слову о полку Игореве»
в 1907 вместе с Кустодиевым совершил поездку по Италии
в 1907-13 много путешествовал по древним русским городам, а также по странам Западной Европы
в 1908-09 работал над эскизами постановок «Царя Федора Иоанновича» А. К. Толстого и «Снегурочки» Н. А. Римского-Корсакова
в 1909 создал эскизы костюмов и декораций к постановке оперы «Псковитянка» в антрепризе С. П. Дягилева в Париже
с 1912 был членом возобновленного «Мира искусства»
с 1914 жил во Франции, работал как художник-декоратор, занимался скульптурой и фресковыми росписями. (Боулт, 1994, с. 243.)
