Photograph was edited for publication purposes. First photograph caption dated October 20, 1931 reads "Tony Buccola, alleged 'big shot' bootlegger, above, mysteriously disappeared in 1930. Police wonder whether he reached trail's end in the 'gangland graveyard.'"; Second photograph caption dated October 22, 1931 reads "'Ghosts' of four Italians who mysteriously disappeared in the past four years and were being 'taken for a ride,' hovered over a Los Angeles court at a hearing which resulted in a ruling interpreted by legal authorities as meaning that they are legally dead, though their bodies may never be found. The federal government called the hearing to collect $1000 bail put up for appearance of Joe Porrazzo on a liquor charge. Detective Lieutenants LeRoy Sanderson and Aldo Corsini testified they believed Porrazzo and the other three are dead in 'gangland's graveyard.' The four are Porrazzo, Tony Buccola, alleged bootlegger; Joe Adrizzoni, wealthy rancher, and Frank Baumgarteker, winery owner. Federal Judge William P. James exonerated Porrazzo's bail, virtually holding that he is legally dead."
