Shimon Erem was born in Kanus, Lithuania in 1922 and immigrated to Palestine with his parents when he was three years old. He joined the Jewish Brigade of the British Army during World War II, and in 1948 helped organize the first Officer’s School in Israel. He came to Los Angeles in 1970, following his marriage to Danielle Nelson, a Los Angeles resident. He devoted much of his time and energy as a volunteer advocate for Israel and the Jewish community.
Shimon Erem, left, speaks with Yitzhak Rabin, the Prime Minister of Israel, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. Rabin was in Los Angeles to receive an award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
