Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989
Angels owner Gene Autry with former President Richard Nixon at Anaheim Stadium. After making his fortune as the "Singing Cowboy" in film, radio and television, Autry purchased the rights to the Angels in 1960; the next year, the American League's first team in California debuted at Wrigley Field, then played for four seasons at Dodger Stadium. They became the California Angels when they moved to Anaheim in 1966. Autry died in 1998. Photo dated: June 27, 1978.
