Title supplied by cataloger. Ralphs Grocery Company, founded in Los Angeles in 1873 by George A. Ralphs, is a major supermarket chain in the Southern California area, and the oldest such chain west of the Mississippi River. Ralphs, as it is simply known, became a grocery pioneer in the 20th Century, offering self-service markets with check-out stands in distributed locations. The location of the original store was at Sixth and Spring Streets, in Downtown Los Angeles. An unidentified man shopping in a Ralphs grocery store, holds a tin of Harper's Apple Blossom talc as he surveys a bin full of Harper's toiletries. Some of these toiletries include bubble bath, cold cream, Apple Blossom talc, shampoo and hairspray. A sign reading: "Introductory offer! Famous Harper's giant sizes [sic] toiletries now 39 [cents] plus tax, as advertised. Reg. 59 [cents]", is posted above the merchandise.
