Photograph caption dated July 28, 1955 reads, "Believed to be fastest land vehicle in existence, rocket sled built by Radioplane Co. of Van Nuys is prepared for test at supersonic speed. It has done 1,100 mph on 10,000-foot sled track at Edward [sic] Air Force Base. Two section sled carries two sets of rockets."
