Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Made possible and accessible through the generous support of the Security Pacific National Bank, Sunlaw Cogeneration Partners, Photo Friends, California Council for the Humanities, the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, and the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation.

Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Originally known as the Hebrew Sheltering Home for the Aged, the Jewish Home for the Aging was founded in Boyle Heights in 1912. About four years later, the Home's first permanent facility was built on Boyle Avenue, where it existed for decades. In 1967, acreage in Reseda was purchased and a facility was built on Victory Boulevard. A merger in 1979 with the Menorah Village created a second campus on Tampa Avenue in Reseda. A staff member at the Jewish Home for the Aging in Reseda assists a resident on the ramp of the facility's van.
