General Atomics was created for the purpose of harnessing the power of nuclear technologies for the benefit of mankind. GA is one of the world's leading resources for development in nuclear science. Areas of specialty include: remotely operated surveillance aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
Looking west towards the coast in La Jolla, towards the future site of the General Atomics campus, located east of what is now County Highway S21 and west of Interstate 5. The Pacific Ocean is in the far background. Two years after this photograph was taken, a 120-acre facility, designed by the architectural firm of Pereira & Luckman, was completed on this site for the nuclear technologies company. Photograph dated February 20, 1956.
