Photograph caption dated January 1, 1958 reads "Bernadette Melch, 17, reveals secret of how Rose Parade beauties keep warm as she shows polka dot longjohns she wore under formal gown as she rode on Burbank float. Helping her to float is Mrs. Dale L. Mower, chaperone for Burbank girls. Others who rode with Bernadette were Callie Scheutz, 16, top, and Gail Taylor, 17. All attend Burbank high schools."
