This photograph, taken November 17, 1938, shows Grant Union High School football team, posing near the school's swimming pool. Playing in the Sierra Football League, the Pacers still lined up against local rivals Sacramento High School and McClatchy High School, losing 13 to 0 and 8 to 0, respectively. Even so, Grant players Phil Paulson, at quarterback, Frank Barbaria, at right end, Gus Bersin, at left guard, and Leslie Jones, at left tackle, were named to the "Sacramento Bee" All-Star Team for 1938.
