Description
Hundreds remain trapped beneath wreckage of auditorium. Crowds had gathered for Empire Day (celebrating lands and people of British Empire) when gangway approach to auditorium gave way, dropping 350 or more to beach below, along with wreckage on top of them. Fifty persons died, either immediately or later as a result of injuries. Photo by Burro Studio.
