Description
This 1942 aerial photograph captures Sacramento’s Broadway District between Land Park Drive and the Sacramento River. At the bottom of the photograph is the newly-completed Tower Theater at 2504 Land Park Drive. Above it is a Cardinal Grocery at 1402 Broadway. In the upper portion of the photograph, at 2501 Riverside Boulevard, is Cardinal Field Ball Park, home of the Sacramento Solons baseball team. It was previously known as Moreing Field and, before that, Buffalo Park. It was renamed Doubleday Park in 1944 then, in 1945, renamed Edmonds Field, in homage to the late Sacramento Union news writer Dick Edmonds.
