Title supplied by cataloger. The white marble office building housed the headquarters for Getty Oil and came to be known as the Harbor Building. Prior to its construction, the lot had been occupied by an expansive estate, built in 1926 for William Jenkins, which served as the home of aging Hollywood star Norma Desmond in Billy Wilder's film "Sunset Boulevard."; Built in 1926 by Edward B. Rust and Luther Mayo in a Mission Revival style, the Los Altos Apartments were originally developed as a "co-op", but went bankrupt during the Great Depression. It is rumored that William Randolph Hearst once kept his mistress, actress Marion Davies, in the penthouse apartment. Other Hollywood stars also rumored to have stayed at the famed hotel include Bette Davis, Mae West, Judy Garland and Loretta Young, among others. In 1999, Los Altos received a design award from the California Preservation Foundation, it was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1999 - Building #99000765; it is Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #311.
