Description
In 1951, Valley Plaza opened as the first shopping center designed to be built near major freeways in the rapidly growing suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.
Photograph caption dated March 24, 1959 reads, "This spacious super drug store, newest unit in the Longs chain which totals 17, extending across California and including Honolulu, will have its formal Valley opening Thursday, March 26. The store is at 12201 Victory Blvd., Valley Plaza Shopping Center. The opening ceremonies will continue through the weekend, ending Sunday evening. An elaborate program of novelty features has been planned to mark the event."
