Photograph caption dated June 4, 1962 reads, "Sgt. Frank Claridge points to helmet that saved fellow officer's life." The article partially reads, "The officer, Clinton O. Erickson, is now recuperating with a left leg broken in three places, a right leg broken in one place, and numerous cuts and bruises. But his head is intact. Capt. W. L. Richie, of the Van Nuys division attributes Erickson' being alive today to the $10,000 helmet on his head."
