Description
Exterior view of the California Institution for Women at Corona on July 10, 1954. Colorful flowers, modern architecture and good landscaping give it the appearance of any Southland campus rather than a penal institution. The entire prison operation covers 119 acres. Sixty of them are enclosed by fences topped with barbed wire. The women do most of the landscaping, including mowing the lawns with power mowers. It is such a serene scene, it is difficultl to realize that the felonies committed by some of the inmates were forgery, narcotics selling, and murder.
