Description
Judge John Merrick, playing sheriff at the 1953 Gymkhana, watches over (L to R) Jackie Coogan, Bill McKee, Jr., Morris Lavine, and Russell Hayden. At the time, Coogan and Hayden both starred in the TV Western "Cowboy G-Men"; Coogan would later become famous as "Uncle Fester" on "The Adams Family." Forced to wear signs announcing their crimes, the men appear to be locked up for "Vagrancy" and "Operating a Harem without a License," while others are labeled as "Kid Napper" and "Lady Killer (starves to death)". The Malibu Gymkhana was an equestrian competition and Western-themed community event held annually at Crummer Field in central Malibu.
