Photograph caption dated dated May 25, 1962 reads, "Kathleen White, 18, Miss Sherman Oaks, left, was the first person to take a book out Thursday at the opening of the new $225,000 Sherman Oaks Library at 14245 Moorpark Street. Dr. Rufus von Kleinsmid, second from left, USC chancellor and chairman of the Los Angeles Library Commission, officially opened the branch library, which will be run by Sarah Mervis, branch librarian."
