Description
Detailed, close-up view of two skirt pieces. The top section displays the batik design; the bottom section has been embroidered with red, yellow, and white thread. Both sections will have fabric appliquéd to the blank areas. These sections show zig-zag motifs of mountains and rivers which will be turned into a Green HMong skirt from the Xiangkhouang region in Laos. Typed label affixed to mat board above photograph reads, "Center section (top) and bottom section, both ready for appliqué[sic]." Handwritten inscription on the mat board beneath photograph reads, "Making a skirt #11, 1984 / Lewis." Date derived from inscription on mat board recto. Notes on verso read: "Making skirt #11 [handwritten pencil, upper left verso]; L.F.C. [handwritten black ink, lower left verso]; FEB 12 1987 [stamped red ink, lower left verso]; HMong: Making A Skirt #11, Lewis Judy, *HMO.3512.00* Summer 2006 [printed label, upper right verso]" Original title from SEACRC: HMong: Making A Skirt #11
