The Festival of Masks was created in the mid-1970s by the Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) to celebrate the diverse heritage of Los Angeles and to provide an arena for cross-cultural exchange. The 6th Annual festival was a two-day event held in Hancock Park on October 31 & November 1, 1981. The festival parade, held on the second day, was co-sponsored by CAFAM and Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. Mario Machado, an actor and news anchor, served as the host for the television broadcast on local Channel 28, KCET. Spectators, costumed Girl Scouts, and KCET staff at the broadcast stage for the 1981 Festival of Masks parade. Mario Machado (left, center) hosts the event for KCET viewers.
