Description
Pictured in circa 1936 are librarians Dorothy Drake (left) and Grace Taylor Dean. Drake went on to serve as the library’s director from 1958 to 1971. Dean, a graduate of Sacramento High School and library director from 1933 to 1958, holds the distinction of bringing on Sacramento’s first bookmobile (1947) and the system’s first check-out machines (1936). The photograph was taken in the Business Services section of the downtown location of the Sacramento City Library, located at 828 I Street.
