Description
Richard H. Marriott, Mayor of Sacramento, 1968-1975. City Councilman, 1959-1968, Deputy Secretary of Health and Welfare under Jerry Brown, 1979. Known for his work supporting organized labor. Editor, Sacramento Labor Bulletin. Here, Mayor Marriott samples a cake baked by local baker Julius Phillip to commemorate the city's 133rd birthday, presented to Marriott by J.W. Kipper, president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. The cake was decorated with a "gold pan" and walnut "gold nuggets."
