Description
Photograph shows Under the big top-- Winter rains do not stop the highway work on the upper deck of the Pit River Bridge where paving operations are under way. A heavy canvas tarpaulin, consisting of 20 sections, each 65 feet long and 20 feet wide, covers a 380 foot length of bridge where the concrete is being poured. The huge tarpaulin, supported by poles and cables, is moved ahead as the work progresses. The upper deck is 51 feet wide, including a four lane highway and walkway at either side. The tarpaulin arrangement was worked out by the contractor, American Bridge Company, and the United States Bureau of Reclamation which is in charge of the Central Valley Project. ght
