Description
Image of an eye-level side view of a steam locomotive with a 4-4-0 wheel arrangement, green-colored tender, decoration between the driving wheels that reads "Hinkley and Williams Works. Boston Mass. / 780" and the label "H. & W.W." on the cylinder.
Probable date based on reference that Matthias N. Forney worked for Hinkley from 1865 until 1870 in White, John H. A History of the American Locomotive: Its Development: 1830-1880, page 452. "M.N. Forney, Del."--text, bottom left of image on railroad track. "J.H. Bufford's lith Boston, Mass."--text, bottom right corner.
