In 1949, Holy Family Services was founded by Delores Hope, wife of comedian Bob Hope. Originally named Holy Family Adoption Service, the agency was established to help find permanent adoptive homes for orphaned and at risk youth, and for infant children whose mothers could no longer care for them. Photograph caption dated January 21, 1959 reads "Valley members of Holy Family Adoption Workers inspect jeweled masks made for ladies attending Jan. 30 Mardi Gras in international ballroom of Beverly Hilton. From left are Mmes. John A. Simpson, Carl Ver Heyen Jr. and Joseph Chaix. Event will aid adoption agency."
