Description
Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting "Tiger Town" (Barrio del Tigre), an area on the northern outskirts of San Luis Obispo, ca.1865. A man on horseback leads a second horse in the foreground left of center, while a second man in a poncho tends his own horse to the right. The town in the background stands at the foot of some small mountains, comprised of dilapidated adobe and wood shacks. A mother stands with her children in the right background. Text written-in at the bottom of the frame reads "Californian Low Life in the Southern Counties" and identifies the area. Vischer's signature, which usually appears in the bottom right of his drawings, is not visible.
