Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated April 14, 1962 partially reads, "Friday the 13th was a lucky day for the 1,400 officers and men of the 146th Air Transport Wing in Van Nuys. It was also 'tidy Friday' - Wing clean-up day, but for the first time in six months the airmen swept and mopped floors and scrubbed desks with smiles on their faces. In a telephone call from Washington, Valley Rep. James C. Corman (D-22nd Dist.) informed the men they would be released from active duty prior to Aug. 31... The wing, with its 16 huge C-97 transglobal Stratofreighters, was activated for one year last Oct. 1 in response to the Berlin crisis." Van Nuys reservists, Jack Jockston, 33 (left), and Don Bendix, 25, wait for Aug. 31 and their release.
