Photograph caption dated October 6, 1982 reads, "Day and night since 1924, the Original Pantry has been serving meals to Los Angeles residents and visitors, attracting patrons 'from every walk of life,' according to the city's Cultural Heritage Board. And yesterday, the City Council granted the Pantry's request and gave the eating place the status of historic-cultural landmark, the city's 255th. The Pantry, at 9th and Figueroa Streets, is expected to survive the widening of both streets. It is the third restaurant to win monument status from the city."
