Description
This circa 1960 postcard shows the saloon which occupied the central building at Sutter's Fort, located at Twenty-Seventh and L streets. Its original barkeeper was Peter "Parly" Slater, a Missouri native and Mormon who came to California prior to the Gold Rush. The saloon was a twenty-four hour operation that included drinking and gaming.
