Description
1938 will mark the thirtieth anniversary of starting work on the Los Angeles-Owens River Aqueduct, which was put into service in 1913. The photo, showing a team of horses being driven through a section of the steel siphons used on the project, is a vivid reminder that when the Aqueduct was being built the country was just emerging from the horse and buggy era. Incidentally, the horse and the mule played important roles in transporting men and materials over the construction roads of the huge project. The photo was thank to emphasize the size of the pipe, just as was the smaller view a few years age when the Bureau of Power and Light was installing the penstock pipe for a third generating unit at its San Francisquito Power Plant No. 2.
