Image of the French ballet dancer "Ariel the flying dancer," wearing a costume with wings, flying over a forest of trees with birds and a sunset sky in the background.
Margins trimmed on local copy; probable date based on general performer history: “26 [October 1880]-Mlle Ariel, ‘The Flying Dancer,’ made her American debut in the Boston (Mass.) Theatre.” ("Theatrical Chronology," New York Clipper 1881 Almanac, page 37) "J.E. Baker"--text, artist's signature in stone, bottom right.
