Description
"Geschwister Emil u. Traugott Bachmann in Mbozi." (Brethren Emil a[nd] Traugott Bachmann in Mbozi."). Close-up group portrait of both Missionaries Emil and Traugott Bachmann together with their wives and four children, all of them are seated on both sides of a table situated in front of a window on the porch. On the table and held by one child are pineapples. Imprinted on the image: "2322 (?)".
Photo included from the box of duplicates. -- The picture was probably taken during 1908-1916 when both Emil and Traugott Bachmann served the mission in Nyasa. -- Johann Traugott Bachmann (1865-1948) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. He served in the year 1892 in Makapalile and from November 1892 to 1899 in Rungwe. In June 1899 he founded the station in Mbozi where he served until 1911 and from 1913 until his internment in 1915. He was married to Elisabeth, née Künzel (1872-1949). -- Emil Karl Bachmann (1875-1940) and his wife Elisabeth Marie Bachmann (1885-?) were missionaries of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine from 1908-1916. During that time they stayed in Isoko (1908-1910), Rutenganio (1910), Mwaja (1910-1912) and Rungwe (1912-1916). For the following three years they were British prisoners of war. After they were released, they became missionaries of the Berlin Mission.
